Six weird things about Bernard

TAGGED again! This time by Yenjai.

Why would anyone want to know what’s weird about me? Well.. to think about it, it’s an exercise in self-examination. Even if it’s superficial examination, eh? Let me see…

1. I start my rounds at 8 am. Used to start rounds at 7.30am when I was in government. Old habits die hard. If you like to sleep late when you’re in hospital, don’t get admitted in my care. Or remember to leave a “Do not disturb” sign on your door (or over the bed). ;-)

What’s weird about that? Office hours start at 8.30am and most of the other consultants start rounds at 9am. I figured that if I start early, the nurses would have some time to breathe later on when ALL the other consultants demand for nurses by their sides. Eh?

Hmm… that means I have more nurses following my rounds too. See, there’s something good from that.

2. I work on Sundays. My off-day is on Saturday. Weird to many people. Except probably Seventh-Day Adventists AND Kedahans. Government departments and schools in Kedah are closed on Fridays and Saturdays. Private businesses including banks are usually closed on Sundays with Saturdays being a half-day for some. So Saturday is an off-day for most people.

3. My spectacles are crooked. Interestingly, it fits me nicely. Hmmm.. what does that tell you?

I guess my face is not symmetrical, eh?

But “otak” centre, ok?

4. I’m the very best last-minute worker. I prepare everything at the very last moment… getting ready for exams, power point presentation, thesis, packing bags, tax returns, car check before long trips, almost everything… only thing that I do early is getting up in the morning.

5. I’m obsessed with the petrol consumption of my cars. Have always been. Even my motorcycle before my car. The calculations are at my fingertips already. The good thing is my vehicles have always been fuel-efficient or else I might be tearing my hair out.

6. I expect to defy the laws of entropy. Eat just as much, same oand expect to lose weight.

Lemme tag….. BibikNyonya.

Not everyone is capable to prepare things at the last minute. U must be a very efficient and competent person liao :)

A last minute worker? Not me!

  4. yenjai.net July 15, 2007 8:54 pm

    haha.
Eat the same and expect to lost weight.
Tell me the secret, if you are succesful

  5. Sweetpea July 15, 2007 11:27 pm

u eat the same amount and expect to lose weight. i think i am worse than you are. i wanna eat eat eat more, and expect to lose weight. like this how loktor?

  6. anastasia July 15, 2007 11:57 pm

I’ll never admit myself into your care then. Sick and half-dead in hospital and sommore have to wake up at 8?!

And nobody’s face is symmetrical la. For me, my eyebrows crooked, so no matter how my glasses are adjusted, it would always seem crooked cos the eyebrow one high one low. Ha ha.

  7. Judy Leese July 16, 2007 1:02 am

Hahaha. Yes, weird except for 1 and 3 (I think).
    1. You are either a very conscientious doctor or you like a lot of nurses following after you. Ahem. :)
    3. Your nose is crooked??

  8. angel July 16, 2007 2:00 am

    No. 1 & 2 not weird.
No. 3 - peculiar… hmmm… face not symmetrical need that kind of glasses wan meh? *tak paham..*’
No. 4 I ditto to that, except I’m not an early riser :P
No. 5 I still have lotsa hair. So, I’m not obsessed with this.
    No. 6 haha… *high five*

  9. Bernard July 16, 2007 8:33 am

Chen, hmmm.. i didn’t see it that way. Let’s see how efficient I can get next time, k? Like, cutting it even closer :-)

Mott, like father like daughter! Well, we’re environmentally-conscious :-) Hi-5!

How does one get the “otak” to center again? Hmmm… that may be the cause of your infectious laughter… wakakakakakaka!

Capt Picard, i must commend you on your task management and discipline! :-)

Yenjai, sure… i’ll let you know if that happens.

BTW, I lost some weight recently… but I cheated: I ate less and exercised some ;-)

Sweetpea, hahahaha… I think I need new glasses! It must have been in my subconscious mind.. no wonder i thought of my glasses when I wrote this ;-)

Eat more and still lose weight… i know, you can go “makan angin” :-)

Anastasia, what time would you rather wake up then?

If I were a patient, I would like to get things over and done with as early as possible. I would like to be seen in the rounds and the necessary tests done early so that I can get on with life.

Often I see pts (usually younger people) still asleep when I do my rounds… I just walk out and come back later.

Eyebrows crooked? Should make you look very inquisitive eh?

    Angel, haha.. #4. another “super-efficient” person! :-)

#6. So i guess u usually just watch the fuel gauge to make sure it’s not “E”, right?

#3. If the face is symmetrical, a pair of glasses would be expected to sit nicely on the bridge of the nose. Mine needed some creative adjustments to make them sit properly.

Judy, how about BOTH! ;-) Actually, they like to follow me… Ahem! …. (ok, perasan.)

Yes, it’s crooked. Or maybe I have to try another pair of glasses.

  10. bibik July 16, 2007 10:44 am

Aiya….what’s so weird about working last minute? People who doesn’t work last minute are the weird ones actually. Ha ha ha ha!

Acelly hor, i did this meme before long time ago. But since you tag me alone only, make me feel so special….i specially repost that meme specially for you lah! Heh heh heh….

  11. eve July 16, 2007 1:12 pm

Eat the same but expect to lose weight..can..if throw in some exercise la..

  12. just me July 16, 2007 3:48 pm

Number 4…. I cannot work well last minute. I always finish a given task early

Number 5…. I always want to top up my car petrol tank when it shows half-empty ( or half full) Weirder than you?

  13. Chelsea July 16, 2007 4:10 pm

    I’m a super last minute person as well except I’m a lamer…=P
I cry infront of my ppt presentation…coz I”m not good with ppt software….hehehe…*malubetul*…try to quit this bad habit for years…slightly seen some outcome already this year…but feeling weird everytime when I’m early…

As for eating habit ar…tsk tsk tsk…no wonder you’re so reluctant to give me advice on this matter…bwahahahaha…I eat like elephant and expect to weight like a slim kitty…=P

  14. wuching July 16, 2007 4:19 pm

ur not weird la, ur patch adam!

  15. Bernard July 16, 2007 5:25 pm

Bibik, hahaha.. aiseyman, you’re right.. power to the last-minute workers.

UAhhh.. thank you la.. so honoured! :-)

And a really entertaining one too.

Eve, you got a personal TRAINER. Gua tarak.

Just me, eh.. then the tank will be heavy la. That increases the fuel consumption, less fuel efficiency. Summore open the tank more times… more evaporation.. more consumption. Agree?

Chelsea, take lots of FIBRE. That’s my best advice. Won’t lose weight.. except mott did. But will lose stools la.

Wuching, amboiii… Patch Adams liddat meh?

But it’s true that a good smile is therapeutic. :-)

  16. nyonyapenang July 16, 2007 8:01 pm

eeeehhh…how come the nose pads on the specs look like Long John Silver’s?

  17. angel July 16, 2007 10:22 pm

so you mean to say each time u only refill half a tank?? come whisper to me the secret to be fuel efficient…

so u r saying that your bridge is one side ‘higher’ than the other? wanna take a close-up pic for us to gauge? haha :P

  18. SK July 16, 2007 11:57 pm

U r not weird at all la. I’m like u too for no 5..in fact, i like to calculate the milage n the petrol consumed for every destination I go.

I work on sundays (n saturdays) too. Then, I’m weirder than u lor..

Mmm..maybe the crooked specs’ a bit weird la..

  19. eastcoastlife July 17, 2007 12:21 am

Your specs are crooked…. hmmm, that means your nose is crooked. What else is crooked? Mind? kekeke…..

Come and get your award from my latest post! ^-^

  20. jonzz July 17, 2007 10:25 am

MB your spec one side has no contact with the nose. Then you can tilt it on demand and confuse people. ROFL.

Can’t understand your number 6 typo: ‘Eat just as much, same oand expect to lose weight.’

  21. Chelsea July 17, 2007 11:34 am

Loosing stools???….bwahahahahaha….patch adam betul lah you ni!!! Oh ya…I’m having a crooked spec too…believe it or not….it’s all plastic made, light weighted and yet still it’s sengeted…bwahahahaha….=P

  22. Firehorse July 17, 2007 5:31 pm

Let me know when #6 works as I oso sokong dis kind of thinking.

  23. leslie July 17, 2007 6:11 pm

It’s good to be calculative else the petrol will burn us in return…… :p

  24. Bernard July 17, 2007 6:52 pm

Nyonya, huh? Wa bo faham, worr.. not literary enough i guess. Hehe.

Angel, no la.. I refill full.

But I think if you refill half from E to half tank is more efficient than from half tank to F ‘cos of the weight savings.

    Fuel-efficiency tips:

    1. Drive as light as practically able. Loose the junk in the car.
    2. Plan your route… choose the least traffic and fewest traffic lights and round-a-bouts. Avoid passing schools at around the last bell!
    3. Drive in a relaxed manner… don’t tailgate or rush. Accelerating and braking cost fuel. Speeding costs fuel too.
    4. Turn the aircon temperature to a comfortable level, not necessarily the coldest. And turn the vents on the passenger side off if driving alone.
    5. Keep the tyre pressures at the recommended pressure.
    6. Keep the engine well maintained.
    7. Transmission. Go up the gears as soon as it’s comfortable. For automatic transmission, reduce the revving.. that will signal the transmission to switch to lower gears unnecessarily.
    8. Grounding wires.. these probably help improve the engine’s torque and less revving is needed. Not sure about this one..
    9. There’s the tip that has been making its rounds on emails.. fill up at night when it’s cool.. not sure about that.
    10. There are other methods of SAVING FUEL besides FUEL EFFICIENCY….. like car pooling. :-)

    SK, ya you’re weirder than I :-)

Except for the crooked specs. Hehe. Congrats! :-)

ECL, uahh.. another award ka? THANKS! *applause* I thank all my loyal blogging fans who support me…. zzzztttt…. waitaminute……oit … ohhh.. you saying i talk too much ka? Hahahaha… OR I’m a sweet talker?… LOL.

Seriously, thanks. I’ll get right on listing the next best schmoozers.

Mind crooked… hmmm.. that’s a very RELATIVE and SUBJECTIVE charateristic. Eh?

Jonzz, you’re a really good proof-reader, bro. I’ll give you that award. :-)

Chelsea, your specs got crooked because of k.i.s.s.i.n.g. izzit?

FireHorse! You’ll be the first to know.

Leslie, yup.. energy is not unlimited. I believe in THIS law of entropy.

  25. eastcoastlife July 18, 2007 1:08 pm

Awaed for schmoozers not smoochers ar. mwahahaha…..

  26. Chelsea July 18, 2007 2:23 pm

Nolah…where got kissing can cause plastic spec to crook one??? I guess it’s because of I accidentally slept on it gua….bwhahahaha….hot ass do changes the shape of plastic oo….=P

p/s: Yours caused by kissing is it??…hehe…=D

  27. ehon August 11, 2007 5:00 pm

    Hey Bernard! :D

I am also Chan! Same geng! I’ve been reading your blog from time to time but never commented. :P

Anyway, do all doctors have to use glasses? And must they post their glasses photo on their blog? *coughs Chen coughs* Hehehehehehe. :P :P

That photo of your glasses totally reminds me of Chen’s post about her glasses once. Hahahaha.

Anyway, have a good weekend! ;)

  28. Bernard August 12, 2007 4:40 pm

Hi Ehon! Chan too, eh? :-) Thanks for dropping by.. sorry it’s at a bad time.. but i’ll be back.

Oh yes, I remember Chen had her glasses on the blog too.I guess many people wear glasses but doctors are not shy to show them? Perhaps? Hehe.
