Down memory street.. when I was eighteen.

Allthingspurple tagged me with this meme to describe music scene when I was eighteen. The year was … err… not so fast… you read the post and guess it!

The year began with Phil Collin’s “Another day in paradise”, which was the title track for the album which went on to be the album of the year. My favourite slow pop scene was characterized by the likes of Roxette with “It Must Have Been Love ” .. but it’s over now. It was just apt for me…. haihss..

“From a distance” from Bette Midler was song of the year. And other memorable ones were.. “Vision of love” by Mariah Carey (who was just starting out on the music scene then); “Love Will Lead You Back” - Taylor Dayne; and “Soul Provider” - Michael Bolton.

Lest you think I’m too sentimental, here are my other more up-beat favourites… this one will never be left out: “Oh Pretty Woman” from Roy Orbison, although it was from 1965 … !!

OK.. that’s still sentimental. How about these favourites, then?

“Blaze of Glory Jon” - John Bon Jovi
“Vogue” - Madonna
“Opposites Attract” - Paula Abdul
“Ice Ice Baby” - Vanilla Ice

and of course, M.C. Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This”

One song I didn’t like was “Step by Step” from New Kids on the Block.

Milli Vanilli was a black spot on the music scene for that year…. their Best New Artiste Grammy was taken back because they were not the the ones actually performing the song in the recording.

So…. guessed what year it was yet?

What an era! Lots of boys and girls dancing the school days away with those songs.

Among all, like the “From a Distance” the best! If I rem correctly, it was during Gulf War, yes?

  10. […] If you do want to see what was on the top 40 for that year I turned 18..go to his page. We’ve got the same […]

    Chelsea, clever girl.

hoiling, yup.. but i don’t think it was actually related to the gulf war. At least I wasn’t aware of the connection.

    Ok ..here goes ..

From a distance you look like my friend,
even though we are at war.
From a distance I just cannot comprehend
what all this fighting is for.

From a distance there is harmony,
and it echoes through the land.
And it’s the hope of hopes, it’s the love of loves,
it’s the heart of every man….

So, I conclude why this song became song of the year! ;)

Good year for music when you were 18 doc. I think I was in College back then. That Bon Jovi tune always reminds me of Young Guns. Liked that movie. :)
