The pursuit of happyness
I watched The Pursuit of Happyness yesterday. JT sent me “Just the two of us” and Jimbo commented that I reminded him of the movie. A bit of background on the story: Chris is a single father to, five-year-old Christopher and suffering setbacks in his business. This father was not going to let all the misfortunes defeat him and made full use of every opportunity to make life better for his son.
Let me share the scene that made a tear well up…. Having been thrown out of their home, father and son end up having to rush to queue up at the shelter for the homeless to get a bed to sleep in every night. One day, while rushing for the bus, Christopher accidentally drops his super-hero doll on the road, one which he holds to sleep every night. They do not have time to turn back to retrieve it and it was left behind.

I could feel the loss that Christopher must have felt at that moment in time. It hurts.

Can understand how you feel. A quiet time in a quiet room would be good to let it all out.
haaii…you so sentimental wannn..
Someone told me this show overplays on bad news until kwa-cheong. Wait, it was Jimbo.
Sheesh, reminds me of Taiwan tearjerker dramas.
LM, thank you. Appreciate it.
Ah Pek, feelinggggsss.
jonzz, err… on the bad news part.. it captures the terrifying feeling that Chris must have felt the moment it happened. He was always thinking on his feet. And the sheer determination of the character was awesome. He was determined to make it happy for the two of them.
Of course, when all the highlights of the events over six months get compressed into 2 hours, one would expect the rate of adrenaline rush to be quite dramatic/surreal/kwa-cheong.
Hmmm….the feeling of dropping the super hero doll behind is the same like leaving something you’re familiar and comfortable with for years, which also signify their current situation…I know how it feels and I feel for you…=D
There is the Singapore version : starring yours truly and my son, Jaymes. Now if I want to make it into a movie, I have to convince Jaymes to return me my book. (I gave it to him as a gift.)
And he is ‘renting’ a page of it for S$2 and 11 pages for S$20! Geezzz….
you just made me want to seek this movie out…
It was indeed a touching movie, no? I cried at many parts of the entire movie — like how both father and son had to fight with other people for a place to spend the night, like how Christopher dropped the toy while they were rushing to catch the bus, like how Chris resolved to selling his blood for some money..
*wipes tears*
I’ve heard a lot about this movie. Must go watch it after your comment. I like tear jerkers!
I could never understand why the word was deliberately misspelt.

You watch it in the cinema?
Alone or with someone? Cried together?
Chelsea, a sad situation indeed.
eastcoastlife, another entrepreneur with sheer determination!
And Jaymes already has the makings of the same too… renting it out and all that. Hehe.
Your movie would be interesting.
May, it’s worth it.
pelf, yes it was. The rush to get a bed was high-tension indeed. Then there was the stay in the “cave”… and… ok.. i should give away too many spoilers, right?
I see that you’ve joined the photo-hunters. Welcome.
Judy, yes… do.
Capt Picard, as much as it’s against the rules, the word “happyness” came from the graffiti in front of Christopher’s daycare. Chris pointed out to the Chinese daycare person, but he just brushed it off.
eve, uahh.. you can transfer to my account *******, thank you very much.
… hubby is right.. the determination was awesome.
… or perhaps your hubby had a soft spot too? *ahem* but won’t confess it?
yenjai, i watched it with Joseph for a while but then he got sleepy, so i watched it alone.
Will Smith is so good. This movie comes out on DVD here Tuesday. It is on my to see list for sure.
Simple American, on DVD that fast, eh? Actually, in Malaysia, it’s even faster… in Petaling Street.
