MP3 to FM modulator
This gadget is interesting. It’s called a “FM modulator”. What is a “modulator” anyway? Well whatever it’s called, here’s how it works : you plug a USB flash memory device (a.k.a. thumb drive, pendrive, card reader) containing .mp3 files and plug the device into the cigarette lighter socket of the car. The gadget with read the mp3 files and transmit it as FM radio signal. You switch the car radio on and tune in to the FM channel that the gadget is transmitting on. Voila! You have a device in the car to play music from your thumbdrive.
If you have an mp3 player or ipod, you can plug it into the line-in socket at the side of the device and it will transmit the signals to the car radio. Nifty!

MP3 to FM converter.

[as usual…] you so progressive!
i had my ipod for almost a year before i realise that it could be cucuk-ed to a normal speaker.
wow! now i can also play it in my car!
problem is..when you travel..the FM signals get all mixed up..and suddenly u “lose” your music..sniff… Technology still needs some tweaking..!!
I’ve seen an interesting cassette deck interface for the IPod. Forgot how much it costs though!
JT, it makes carrying your music around easier.
mott, i’ve used it for a few days.. it hasn’t gone and mixed up yet worr. (do you mean with other channels/frequencies?)
jonzz, i was wondering when they’ll make a car audio system that takes SD card or something. or has a usb port to plug your thumbdrive in directly. This gadget costs RM89. It should be cheaper in KL.
Sounds cool. I thought all cars already have a radio and won’t need to use this gadget?
errr..watever la..me tarak drive , so..no nid for all those gadgets…i datin ma..i sit at the back one..kekekekeek..
heard my BIL talking about it, but gua betul suakoo mia, dunno what lor.
I bought one too not long ago, used few times only. Disliked it, cause it has a lot of noise interference, irritating. CD better.
The cassette interface is RM60.00.
For CD users, there is a direct jack available for RM10.00, this is better than the FM mods..sorry Doc! But if your Mod is working well..than good la..Think if you travel outstation or something..then, allot of frequencies changing.
sigh.. makes me feel like another mountain tortoise.
help me.. I’m in the technology sector!
And I heard it’s cheap.. Saw that in my colleague’s car before.
just me, radios can’t play mp3 files though.
datin eve, yes datin, datin can install a CD changer in datin’s marsili. datin doesn’t nid these el-cheapo gadgets.
cytusm, mp3 files are inherently more “lossy” than audio CD files. i wouldn’t expect the same quality, but it’s not obvious on my normal car speakers. The quality of the sound is the same as the regular radio channels. No more, no less.
mott, true, when there’s an FM station transmitting on the same frequency, then the FM mod frequency will need to be changed.
There’s another device which is used for just transmitting from mp3 players/CD players/phones… but can’t read directly from thumbdrive. That costs about RM49.00. I saw that one and thought, “uah half the price only”. So i bought it only to realise that it doesn’t play mp3 files directly from thumbdrive… good thing the shop assisstant let me return it and top up to get the FM modulator.
LM, mountain tortoise? At least you live long. Hehe.
Zara’a mama, hi! welcome.
My boss bought it last year, the 1st ever version, got too much sound loss. Now got many models in the market, I think they improve it already kua…
Kenny, rockers are not allowed to use these. Hifi audio ADD CDs only. nothing less.
