Gunung Jerai
What’s on top of Gunung Jerai? That’s the mountain that all of Perlis, Kedah and Penang could see. Gunung Jerai served as a landmark for trade cities of ancient days in the Bujang Valley off the Merbok River and later as a cool hill resort. It rises 1200m above sea level and is accessible by road from Gurun, a town on the Alor Setar-Sungai Petani trunk road. The drive up takes 20 minutes.
So what’s on top of Gunung Jerai? Colonial-style houses, gardens, a cafe, chalets and a meeting hall. Plus a good view of the north side. You’d need to climb another hillock on the south side to see the view of Sungai Petani.

Here you can see the coastline. Paddy fields extend up to the coast.
