Garden post

It’s been 2 months since work on my garden started. Some progress has been made :-). I’m happy to report that the grass has grown a bit. The most enjoyable part is seeing flowers bloom in the garden. The flowering plants were brought by my mother from Bukit Mertajam. Thanks, mom!

Greener grass.

Anthuriums: the first flower to bloom in the garden.

Japanese roses. Easy to grow. These spread really fast.

Roses are red…

This flower has a attracted an admirer. I think it’s a male mosquito feeding on the plant’s juice. I’m no entomologist.

The mandatory curry-leaf plant. A bit stunted?

Were the flowering plants already in bloom when your mum brought them or was it your “green fingers” which sped up the process?
    Happy gardening!

Hmm, doctor, why is there a longer version of your post under comments? Your ‘outer post’ only has two photos or is it my browser…

  3. yenjai November 24, 2006 9:18 am

Wow, no more ‘friend or foe’ problem?
I see all the grass are ‘well behaved’.

  4. Bernard November 24, 2006 9:28 am

just me, they wre not “ready-made” flowers, hehe… but i was surprised at how easily they bloomed with just water and sunshine ;-)

jonnz, yes… i thought i’d try making the “outer post” shorter so that loading time is faster… i should add a “read more…” link, shouldn’t i? thanks.

yenjai, no more… the line between the friends and foes is clearer now. thanks for the advice to give it a bit more time to grow :-)

no worries about the curry leaf plant - it grows very, very fast wan.

  7. dobbs November 24, 2006 9:49 am

Wow! Good to see your grass growing so well — guess the current rainy spell is helping. Now to keep away the weeds……

wei, i see prospect for a koi pond there. think about it. see beh nice to rear koi. I tried once, but the pond started leaking after 6 months. I gave away all my kois and broke up the pond.! now trying to grow bonzai pulak.

    wahhhhhhh…the mostiko..feel like whacking it la…jahanam lah ur flower…

  10. LM November 24, 2006 10:53 am

I see eve has a mozzie-hatred! and so do I!

bernard, I’ll cover up the drains.. helps prevent mishaps (sprained ankles) when children run about.

get some creepers for the fence. (provided your neighbour is OK with it). Like Thunbergia grandiflora (the blue flower vine), or Bauhinia kockiana (spectacular orangy-red flowers)

Put a bit of pebbles somewhere. It will brighten up the green a bit.

nyonya, my curry leaf plant has been there for 2 months liao.. boh growing worr… some leaves kena petik osolah.

dobbs, the rain helped loads :-)… and the weeds are having a gala time too :-(

Ah Pek, that’s an idea to think about. I’m afraid to try things that might veto all future holiday plans. I wonder how long i can leave a fish-pond unattended, hmmmm.

Bonzais look good. They take a lot of patience to cultivate, don’t they?

eve, it’s ok lah.. male moski .. doesn’t bother me ..

LM, creepers for the fence is a good idea, thanks… why didn’t i think of that? hehe. My side neighbour hasn’t moved in yet. The blue flower vine; is that bunga telang? it’s used as flavouring and colouring for kuih seri muka right?

BTW, there’s a wall in place of the back fence now, ‘cos the neighbour at the back wanted it.

Queen, pebbles are a nice touch too. I’m waiting to see where the grass doesn’t grow .. and patch it up with pebbles ;-). Thank God for “instant solutions”.

    Wow superb
    The grass behaving well
Covers for the drains are a good idea
Anthuriams are my personal favourites. So are orchids

Well there is plenty of time. But the more the plants the lesser and shorter the holiday plans. Unless got auto mode or auntie mode?
Auto mode are the sprinklers maybe?

  17. Happysurfer November 25, 2006 12:35 pm

Nice. A garden is a source of happiness. Happy gardening.

  18. nyonyapenang November 25, 2006 6:39 pm

kasi trim/prun sikit the curry leave plant. ;)

  19. Bernard November 26, 2006 3:34 pm

Sifu george, thank you for the sagely advice the last time. My impression is that orchids are more fussy and need more attention. I’d rather plant something that will grow no matter what i do, hehe. BTW, sprinklers are a bit grandiose for my humble garden, don’ya think?

Happysurfer, yes, i’m happy when the garden denizens grow.

nyonya, aiyo.. so ketot ard want to trim summore kah? will it help to accelerate the growth?

Wahlau!! A surgeon-cum-gardener…can cut n can grow beautiful plants as well! ** Salute**
    Surgeon’s hands + green fingers = Bernard;p

  21. George November 26, 2006 10:00 pm

I was joking about the sprinklers hough I did see one in a house before!!

  22. Bernard November 27, 2006 8:40 pm

SK, the only thing green is the colour of the water hose, hehe.

  23. LM November 28, 2006 9:24 am

    Bernard:

I have absolutely no qualms that the plants in your garden will undergo surgery at every slight deviation from normal growing conditions.

The blue vine is Clitoria ternatea. It is a sparse vine; not good looking and lush enough to cover a fence. And of course the flowers would remind you of the female part. :)

  24. Bernard November 28, 2006 11:28 am

LM, clito-what?? The name itself reminds me of the female part liao. Hehe.

  25. George November 29, 2006 2:15 am

Wah LM you are good at this female like flowers eh? Any pictures for us to see, I mean the flower!

  26. LM November 29, 2006 11:41 am

Haiyah! This dirtyminded george! :) Now don’t go and have fantasy thoughts ok? Remember, its Clitoria, not Clitoris

    Clitoria

  27. George November 30, 2006 12:27 am

Hiyah saylah butterfly pea! Never really looked at it as a female part until now! interesting!

  28. Bernard November 30, 2006 1:07 pm

Yup, that’s bunga telang alright. I’ve got to get a better imagination. Hehe.

  29. hoiling December 5, 2006 10:17 pm
