Pool time!
Joseph started going to the swimming pool when he was 6 months old. He was quite happy in the water at first. However, he had a scare when he was 2 years old and became afaid to go anywhere but the most shallow pools. Recently, he has picked up the courage to into the deeper pool. He loves frolicking in the water and making a splash. And making friends.
What can I do to improve his confidence in the water? How should he start learning to swim?

Jump in.

Whooooeeeeeeeee!

Making friends.
What can I do to improve his confidence in the water? How should he start learning to swim?

im so shame, i still dunno how to swim
I think he’s fine the way he is now. Like you said, he’s moving into deeper waters. So, looks like his confidence is building again. What’s the rush?
My son has proper swimming class in his kindy.
Haha. He like swimming, (according to his teacher, he is pretty good in it too) but he doesn’t like his swimming session.
You know why?
He doesn’t like dressing himself up after that.
He is very slow in buttoning up his shirt and putting on his socks.
@_@
Back to bernard, maybe enroll Joseph in a proper kiddy class?
wahhhhhhhhhh….sudah pandai tackle awek ye?…ni belajar dari mana ni?..kekekkeke…
kenny, landlubber eh? never too late to learn!
jonzz, i want him so swim cross-channel by 8 years old mah… haha, no lah. i guess there’s no rush.
yenjai, Joseph’s kindy school has “water play” in a shallow pool, but that’s not swimming. He has flatly refused to join a class at the moment. Maybe when his confidence increases a bit more.
eve, bukan tackle awek lah. saja tengok dia buat “stunt” macam-macam.
so here comes diving sifu with his 2cents worth of opinion:
Slow slow. No rush.Take him more often to the pool. Jump in with him. His confidence grow by watching. But do not let him become overconfident by thinking it is very safe to go to the deep end. Let him play. Make friends. Then when he 10years old can join diving club and go diving with Uncle George!!
Swimming is something that cannot be forced. He’s doing quite alright now. Maybe enroll him in swimming class might boost his confidence.
uncle sifu george, thanks for the wise words. yup, i guess watching will improve his confidence. he’s enjoying it already.
queen, at the moment he refuses to join a class but eventually, i think he’ll warm up to the idea
swimming is fun!I learn it myself when I aged 10. just go down into the sea water in front of my house.no swimming pool!my sister & I try very hard to practise how to swim,we used “tayar dalam”,”tong plastik kosong” to support, but ends up drank a lot of ‘free drink’-salty water.hahaha…Finally we made it!Oo..ooooYes!
BP, wah.. you girls are very brave, eh? Haha. No buaya there arr?
I am so good at swimmin how can u not swim!!!
To entice or motivate him, must show him all the funs other kids are having.
I learn swimming at age 19. Not expert but can float. Whenever I’m in the pool, just to make sure I swim near the side. It gives me sense of security. haha
Lily, welcome!! Good for you!
Hoiling, yes, be careful in the pool if you can’t swim well. Practice makes perfect
I still can’t swim.
My son can swim well.
Sigh. Shame shame on daddy
yenjai… tsk, tsk, tsk… shame, shame. Pretend to take him to the pool for him to play. Then watch and learn.
It is good to be your son!
breast stroke, front crawl, backstroke, butterfly.
All the early exercises including gymnastic to ensure a healthy skeletomuscular development.. bernard you are the man!
LM, he’s just having F.U.N.. spells “fun!!”. Haha.
No buaya lah,Dr.sometimes we can even catch a sea-horse if lucky. It’s fun! I agreed with sifu George, take him more ofen to the pool.Joseph is happy in water now, try….let him wear a life jacket, goggles, and swim together with him or place your forearm below his body to support him, move together while he swim…….
Having fun in the swimming pool is great but not sea or pond or river or lake. You never know what beneath. yikes!!
BP, seahorse? Fuyoh! Much more charming than buayas.
hoiling, yes.. i’ve had my share of cuts from debris and stings from jellyfish in tanjung bungah. hehe. buthen, there’s a lot more adventure to be had in the sea… eh, george?
Well then we should take a look what lies beneath that beautiful blue - turquise water that blends with the skies at the horizon. Enchanting!
will never know till you take that dive
I know we don’t have great whites here in SEA water, but the JAWS movie really scary. Enchanting maybe for the real dive, but ..but.. watching it thru Discovery Channel is equally satisfying! haha
