The “Hidden Mickey”
Okie… who can spot the hidden mickey? (Those of you who have kids of Disney-Channel-watching age will know this favourite clip.) Or the hidden appendix?
Firstly, the appendix looks inflammed (red, swollen and angry.) During laparoscopy, however, we have the advantage of motion and the ability to look at the appendix from various angles. Plus, we can hold the appendix in the forceps and follow the appendix back to its base. But here, on this photo ( the same one as the previous post), I’ve outlined the appendix with a yellow line; in true hidden mickey routine. (Open the single post view.)

Sometimes the doctor might not want to dwell on the minor details but would rather focus of the important information that patients need to understand the big picture and make decisions. NVM lah, as long as the lok’un knows what to look for

Err… tot provoking ah? How observant. Oh, how come i didn’t see the resemblance before eh? Actually, in the same way, the normal appendix is small, thin and floppy. The inflammed appendix is swollen.
It looks all the same to me! Red and angry ..
Some parts are redder than others.
‘Spot the hidden mickey’. I think I’ll use that in the OR for the next appendectomy I perform. Thanks!
