Hope I'm not too late but if you decided to plant any fruit trees in the yard, bear in mind you'll have problems of ants and termites in the future...for my house, the must have is aloe vera, a subs to gel for soothing wounds (I know you won't need it *grins*), pandan, lemon grass, lemon (in pots), limau kasturi (in pots), cili (in pots), you'll found them usefull in times of cooking and it's much more easier to take care and control the size if you plant them in pots....plus some decorative plants like ferns...walla...your house is perfect...

Hello chelsea, welcome. Thanks for the suggestions. You're the second person to suggest aloe vera to me. :-)

I miss lime tree at my hometown too.. :(

These pics were taken when I last went back.

mangoes alot of kerengga (big red) ants. But they also serve one purpose of protecting the tree against other pests like caterpillars.

fruit trees will attract alot of bats at night.

Way to go! for a green earth!

If got space, could consider planting some rainforest trees, like the pulai. A durian tree is also good.

Bernard says, "Fuyoh! Got sapce but not that much space. Thanks for the info. So, the kerengga have got a role too :-)"

Bernard, ahhh. At least I won't be so guilty should my wife stumble accross your pix (pretty unlikely. She doesn't surf).

Pandan is great. I have plenty in my garden. Doesn't need much attention.

Bernard, hope that ur mango tree wont bully ur other trees.

Since the fruit trees will take a while to grow, how about planting some vegetables? I get so excited when my mom sent me to pull out a big fat ginger from the garden pot! ;)

DOBBS, thanks for dropping by. mango roots grow wild? ok... i'd better check with the Jabatan Pertanian ppl how much space it needs.

yes, the grass needs weeding and watering. i'm new to planting anything at all, so it's going to be a learning experience, :-)

yenjai, if i tried digging them, it would've taken years too... the men who dug up a layer of tanah liat from my garden dug up the holes for me. haha

jimbo, thanks for the input. i hear it gives good shade too but they also say the roots are too big and may break the drain.
