Gallbladder stones

Stones in the gallbladder is one of the causes of pain or discomfort in the upper part of the abdomen, particularly after a meal. These stones may actually be completely quiet, i.e. symptomless. Or, at the other extreme, they may cause a lot of damage to the surrounding organs. Usually, the gallbladder is removed via a laparoscope if it causes problems.

    probably mixed stones.. cholesterol and pigment. i haven’t heard of vinegar and bitter gourd but there’s a popular recipe of apple juice/cider and olive oil. after taking it, the patient may pass stone-like beads in the motion. it’s not the stones lah of course, probably the ingredients react in the gut and form these beads. the stones are still there when you scan again.

    Hi hi,

    Pic 1 - Orangy bulk = fats?
    Pic 2 - Do you cut out the whole gallbladder?
    Pic 3 - Where are the ’stones’ came from??

    hoiling,

    1. yup
    2. yup
    3. stones form because of poor flow of bile, super saturation of bile contents in the gallbladder and previous infection. just as mud collects at the bottom of a slow-flowing river.

    Hi Bernard,

    If you cut out the whole gall bladder, will it affect certain functions? Or its just another appendix or wisdom tooth that didn’t add value to the body system?

    Bile = waste?

    Hi hoiling,

    You’ve asked a question that most people will ask :-).

    It’s like this: this gallbladder grows gallstones because it is not functioning properly. The bile flow from the GB is slow, so it forms stones. If we leave the GB, stones will form again.

    Bile is some waste but not all waste. It’s function includes emulsifying fats and oils to enable digestion and absorbtion. It’s produced by the liver. The function of the GB is to store bile and pump it out to the intestines when we take a meal.

    However, the body can adapt and digestion and absorbtion can take place normally even without the presence of a GB. Besides, the adaptation has probably already taken place because GBs with stones have probably malfunctioned in the first place.
